PROBLEM: When Frank Farrell, owner of Red Bank, N.J.–based Custom Video Productions, is generating sales leads on the fly, he needs a quick and easy way to demonstrate his company’s capabilities. He has tried showing a sample corporate video on an iPod, but the screen is too small and viewers have to plug in headphones to hear the sound.

SOLUTION: Farrell purchased an iPhone the moment they hit the market. He knew it was the marketing tool he needed for getting new customers. Now, when a potential client at a charity event or business lunch asks what he does, he pulls out the iPhone and presses a button to start a sample customer video. “It’s the best tool in the toolbox,” Farrell says. At conventions and seminars, he wears the iPhone attached to his black suit and uses it as a name tag. The phone is also a multimedia business card — definitely an icebreaker, he says, because it creates word-of-mouth buzz.

Not only have Farrell’s sales increased since he began using the iPhone, but it’s also made him a favorite with clients. Several have bought their own iPhones to display Custom’s video for their company to potential clients.
